As we continue to move towards a more remote society, the emergence of technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), virtual reality (VR), and augmented reality (AR) has been nothing short of emphatic.

Writing for Techopedia, Dmytro Spilka, CEO of Solvid, a creative content creation agency, and founder of Pridicto, a web analytics startup, points out that in today's educational environment, institutions are adopting high-tech tools such as AI, VR, and AR as ways of enhancing their quality of their curriculum.

“Following the Covid-19 pandemic, edtech platforms like Duolingo, Udemy, and Coursera soared in popularity, and these leading companies continue to grow exponentially as individuals of all ages embrace digital transformation.” Spilka remarks.

“Digital transformation is helping institutions retire old ways of thinking and working in order to harness technology to transform institutional outcomes,” says Susan Grajek, vice president of partnerships, communities and research for EDUCAUSE presenting at the 2021 EDUCAUSE conference. “Institutions need to build the foundations of digital transformation through shifts in their culture, workforce and technology.”

“The coronavirus pandemic has changed trends around the world, accelerating the adoption of technology in various sectors,” notes Maxim Manturov, head of investment research at Freedom Finance Europe. “The education industry is no exception, it is worth noting that there were attempts to integrate technology into education before, but the pandemic has accelerated and strengthened this trend. This may increase the number of people willing to switch to online learning as it allows attending classes anywhere.”

With the recent shift toward digital transformation accelerating the growth of education technology, the Techopedia article explores the emerging trends within education technology and how they will impact the future of learning.

Education is Driving Personalization

A recent report conducted by Deloitte indicates that 40% of all 21st Century skills are dependent on personalized education. Thanks to edtech, students can now receive personalized content and adaptive learning plans as part of their education plans.

“The Edtech industry has increasingly sought to create an environment conducive to learning by allowing students the freedom of choice when it comes to their learning paths and courses, and continuously evaluating their path within the curriculum,” Says Spilka, pointing out relevant software and hardware.

“Several AI programs are already working to deliver more tailored experiences to users. For example, Duolingo uses AI and deep learning to assess a student's skill level when they begin learning a language. The learning pace can be customized to meet the needs of individuals who have had experience learning a particular language before.”

Likewise, the Apple Watch helps students develop better habits, particularly with physical learning, which can provide more hands-on experiences for students. In addition, artificial intelligence is being used increasingly to help create personalized learning plans while analyzing student data to deliver a more comprehensive understanding of each student's strengths and weaknesses.

Learning Experiences Becoming More Immersive

When it comes to learning, wearables like the Apple Watch offer many benefits. Immersive learning is primarily concerned with making modern hardware work for the educational industry. They can function as a learning platform that identifies users from their smartphones before creating a comprehensive profile that collects information about multiple classes from different subjects.

Through immersive learning, virtual reality can be harnessed on a large scale. Today, anyone with a smartphone can access augmented reality and virtual reality thanks to the growth of consumer reality technology. Teachers will be able to simulate real-life school settings for learning, and classrooms will be able to become virtual - without adding expensive or demanding adjustments to accommodate this new digitized learning model.

The adoption of virtual classrooms will accelerate at an increasingly fast pace as tech giants like Facebook, Google, and Niantic all race to develop the next generation of AR eyewear.
